Bengaluru Police Arrest 18 for Cheating in Army Group ‘C’ Recruitment Exam with Electronic Devices

In a significant effort to curb examination malpractice, the Halasuru police in Bengaluru have apprehended 18 individuals suspected of cheating during an Army Group ‘C’ recruitment exam using electronic devices.

The detentions occurred on Sunday at the 515 Army Base Workshop in Halasuru amid a direct recruitment exam for Lower Division Clerk (LDC) positions under the Civil Defence Employment Recruitment for the 2025–26 period, which was held on February 8 from 10 am to 12 noon.

Authorities became aware of the malpractice following a complaint by Colonel SS Jyotirlingam, Security Officer to the Commandant and Managing Director of the 515 Army Base Workshop. Invigilators, observing unusual behavior such as candidates whispering, were prompted to investigate further.

Subsequent inquiries uncovered that the accused candidates had allegedly photographed the question paper upon receipt and sent the images to accomplices outside through WhatsApp. Answers were then communicated back to the candidates via Bluetooth devices hidden on them during the test.

A search operation resulted in the seizure of several electronic items, notably three mobile phones, 12 Bluetooth devices, and various related accessories. Some of these devices were discovered in bags outside the examination hall, particularly those associated with two of the suspects.

The individuals arrested have been named as Surender, Sandeep, Monty, Anuj, Ajay Kumar, Sumit, Rahul, Aman, Ankit, Vikas, Yogesh, Aman Redu, Rajat, Vinay, Aman Kumar, Manish, and Prashant. Police have confirmed all are from Haryana.

The 18 accused have been placed in judicial custody. Investigations are ongoing to uncover others possibly involved, including those who assisted in providing answers from outside the examination venue.
