Assistant Commandant Tanuj Kumar Honored with Director General Sword of Honour at Indian Coast Guard Passing Out Parade
A group of 42 Assistant Commandants from the Indian Coast Guard have graduated from the Coast Guard Training Centre (CGTC) in Kochi. The graduation took place following the Passing Out Parade for the 82nd Coast Guard Law & Operations Course on 4 August 2026, marking the completion of an intensive training program aimed at preparing the officers for duties across India's extensive maritime territories.
The Passing Out Parade was overseen by Deputy Inspector General Ashish Mehrotra, who serves as the Commander at Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 4 (Kerala & Mahe). He praised the graduates for their successful completion of the challenging course, highlighting their discipline, professionalism, and dedication to the core principles of the Indian Coast Guard. He encouraged them to maintain high standards of integrity and service as they enter operational roles.
During the ceremony, Assistant Commandant Tanuj Kumar was awarded the prestigious Director General Sword of Honour for achieving the highest overall merit. This award is given for outstanding overall performance, leadership abilities, and academic achievement during training, making it a significant accolade for Coast Guard officers.
The 82nd Law & Operations Course offered comprehensive training in various aspects of maritime law enforcement, Coast Guard operations, and coastal security. The curriculum covered maritime legislation, boarding operations, search and rescue, environmental protection, anti-smuggling activities, maritime surveillance, and operational planning. This training is designed to provide officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect India's maritime interests effectively.
After completing the course, the newly commissioned Assistant Commandants are set for deployment across different Indian Coast Guard units. They will also undergo watchkeeping certification on Coast Guard vessels, preparing them for operational command roles at sea and direct involvement in maritime security operations.
The Indian Coast Guard is crucial in safeguarding India's maritime zones through coastal security, search and rescue, anti-smuggling, pollution response, fisheries protection, and humanitarian missions. The addition of these newly trained officers will enhance the operational capacity and readiness of the force to tackle emerging maritime threats.
