Assistant Commandant Nishi Sharma to Command All-Women Indian Coast Guard Contingent at Republic Day Parade

Assistant Commandant Nishi Sharma is a notable figure within the Indian Coast Guard, recognized for her leadership, dedication, and professional achievements. She has been chosen to lead the all-women contingent of the Indian Coast Guard during the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. Coming from a family with a deep-rooted military background, Assistant Commandant Sharma is a second-generation defense professional. Her father and brother both serve in the Indian Army, which exposed her early on to the values of discipline, honor, and national service. She completed her early education at an Army Public School, fostering her interest in uniformed service. She later pursued her undergraduate education at Miranda House, University of Delhi, before embarking on her career with the Indian Coast Guard.

Throughout her career, Assistant Commandant Sharma has demonstrated remarkable competence and leadership. She has served as an instructor at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala, significantly contributing to the training and development of future officers in the naval and coast guard services. Her role as an instructor underscores her ability to mentor and inspire new generations of maritime defenders.

The all-women contingent she will command, alongside Assistant Commandant Apurva Gautam Hore, Assistant Commandant Lakshita, and Assistant Commandant Hardik, will showcase India's maritime vigilance across its extensive coastline of over 11,000 kilometers. The Indian Coast Guard has been at the forefront of empowering women officers with combat and leadership roles, and this contingent is a testament to that tradition.

Recently, Assistant Commandant Sharma's physical strength and determination were on display when she secured first place in the female category of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) Triathlon. This challenging competition involved 3.8 km of sea swimming, 180 km of cycling, and a 42.2 km marathon run, bringing significant recognition to the Indian Coast Guard and highlighting her embodiment of Nari Shakti—the strength and resilience of women in uniform.
