Asim Munir Accuses India of Aggression, Pledges Firm Response, Labels Pakistan as Stabilising Force

Field Marshal General Asim Munir of Pakistan has accused India of conducting two "unprovoked attacks" and has promised a “decisive response” to any upcoming aggression. During his address at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, Munir reiterated Islamabad's position on the Kashmir issue, asserting Pakistan's role as a “net regional stabiliser” despite recent military tensions.
These remarks follow the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in May, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, executing precision airstrikes inside Pakistan targeting terror bases. This marked a significant escalation and included India's partial suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, perceived as a direct diplomatic challenge to Pakistan.
Munir, however, accused India of contributing to regional instability, labeling its actions as “strategic recklessness.” He claimed that Pakistan had displayed restraint and was ready to respond decisively to any potential future incursions.
Reaffirming Pakistan's long-held stance on Kashmir, Munir stated, “Pakistan remains committed to a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.” He once again described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein,” echoing controversial remarks made earlier this year shortly before the Pahalgam attack.
India has consistently dismissed Pakistan’s attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue, insisting it is a domestic matter and accusing Pakistan of harboring militant groups in the region. Analysts suggest that Munir’s speech may be aimed at consolidating domestic political support and diverting focus from Pakistan’s deteriorating economic and internal security situations.
The Indian government has yet to issue a response to Munir’s latest statements. However, defense officials have maintained that the Indian Armed Forces are on high alert and ready to respond to any escalation along the Line of Control or international border.
Munir’s recurring threats and the resurgence of hardline rhetoric on Kashmir are likely to further strain the already volatile relations between the two nuclear-armed countries. Regional experts caution that such remarks could heighten the risk of miscalculation and military conflict, especially amid current tensions.
