Army Soldier Assaulted by Toll Booth Staff in Meerut; Four Arrested

An incident involving a soldier being assaulted at a toll booth in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district has caused widespread uproar, following the circulation of a video documenting the attack. Four individuals have been apprehended by the authorities in relation to the incident.
The victim, identified as Kapil Kavad from the Rajput Regiment, was on his way to Delhi airport from his home, intending to catch a flight to his station in Srinagar. He was accompanied by his cousin when they were caught in heavy traffic at the Bhuni toll booth. Concerned about potentially missing his flight, Kapil exited his vehicle to speak with the toll booth personnel, which subsequently led to a confrontation.
Law enforcement officials report that a group of at least five toll booth employees assaulted Kapil and his cousin. Video evidence captured Kapil being struck with sticks, restrained against a pole, and verbally abused while his arms were held behind his back.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed the arrests, stating, "Kapil is in the Indian Army. He was returning to his post when the incident took place. Following his family’s complaint, a case was registered at Sarurpur police station. Four accused have been arrested after reviewing CCTV and video evidence. Teams are working to nab the remaining suspects.”
It is reported that the altercation began when Kapil explained to the toll staff that his village was within an area exempt from toll charges, which led to an argument and subsequent violence.
