Army Medic Performs Life-Saving CPR on Infant Aboard Rajdhani Express

On October 13, 2025, a daring act of bravery and medical skill was showcased by Sepoy (Ambulance Assistant) Sunil from 456 Field Hospital, who saved the life of an eight-month-old infant on board the Rajdhani Express.

The event transpired around 4:30 pm in the S4 compartment of the train heading to Dibrugarh. The infant suddenly stopped breathing and became unresponsive, prompting the mother to faint from shock as panic ensued among the passengers.

Sepoy Sunil, who happened to be traveling in the same coach after returning from leave, immediately took charge. He displayed remarkable composure and swiftly assessed the child's condition, finding the baby without a pulse or breath.

Without delay, he laid the infant on a flat surface and began performing paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using two fingers on the chest, followed by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The child began to show signs of recovery after two cycles.

Sunil then collaborated with train personnel and Railway Police to ensure the infant received immediate medical attention at Rangiya station. His prompt actions averted a potential tragedy in a situation lacking immediate medical resources.

In recognition of his exceptional medical expertise, quick response, and steadfast dedication, the Indian Army commended Sepoy Sunil, acknowledging his crucial role in saving a young life.

This incident underscores the unwavering commitment and adaptability of Indian Army personnel, who stand ready to serve in emergencies beyond the battlefield.
