Army Institute of Technology Supports Injured Ex-NDA Cadet's Return to Armed Forces Path
The Army Institute of Technology (AIT) in Pune has demonstrated exceptional resilience and support by aiding former National Defence Academy (NDA) cadet Akireddy Sai Vedansh in pursuing his aspiration to serve the nation, despite a significant neck injury that ended his military training stint.
Vedansh joined the NDA in 2024 with aspirations of earning a BTech in Applied Electronics and Communication and becoming an Indian Air Force pilot. Unfortunately, during routine training in March last year, he sustained a severe fracture to his cervical vertebra. Though the injury did not necessitate surgery, it rendered him medically unfit for the rigorous physical demands of military training, leading to his discharge from the Academy.
In an unprecedented move, AIT Pune admitted Vedansh directly into the second year of its BTech programme. This was made possible through the "over and above" seats provision, with necessary approvals from Army authorities and adherence to AICTE guidelines for genuine cases.
Having completed a year at AIT, Vedansh is now on the path to recovery and remains resolute in his goal to don the uniform once more. He plans to take the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination following graduation, aiming for direct entry into the Armed Forces.
Major General Uday Shankar Sengupta (Retd.), the Director of AIT Pune, characterized this initiative as a first for the institute. He emphasized the institution's pride in supporting deserving students beyond mere academics. Despite a lengthy period of hospitalization and rehabilitation, Vedansh has fulfilled his academic requirements and continues to excel in his studies.
This initiative underscores the Armed Forces' dedication to supporting their members and ensuring that obstacles do not hinder the pursuit of a life devoted to service.
