Army Chief General Dwivedi Assesses Strategic Preparedness in Kumaon Region
General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff, conducted a visit to forward zones in the Central Sector to evaluate the operational readiness of the Indian Army. His visit aimed to inspire troops stationed in difficult terrains and to fortify civil-military relations in the strategically crucial Kumaon region.
During his inspection, General Dwivedi visited high-altitude positions in Pithoragarh and surrounding forward locations. He received briefings on the operational stance and current advancements in capabilities. The evaluation focused on advanced surveillance technologies, specialized mobility platforms, next-generation tech, reconnaissance integration, and cooperation with allied security agencies. The Army Chief praised the professionalism, tactical innovation, and steadfast discipline of the forces working in harsh weather and rugged terrains.
While engaging with soldiers in remote locations, General Dwivedi acknowledged their bravery, resilience, and steadfast dedication to duty, emphasizing the Army’s motto, “Service Before Self.” He assured them of the Army’s readiness to address evolving security threats along India’s borders.
General Dwivedi also met with veterans and local citizens, acknowledging their contributions to the nation and offering Diwali greetings to all ranks and their families. He highlighted the strategic significance of the Kumaon region, which neighbors Nepal and China, and commended the strong patriotism and resilience of the local populace.
Drawing attention to the region’s rich martial heritage, he evoked the legacy of the Kumaon Regiment and assessed developmental projects underway through Operation Sadbhavna and the Vibrant Village Programme. These projects aim at infrastructure enhancements like hybrid power initiatives, better road connectivity, community health camps, agricultural aid through polyhouses, and eco-friendly tourism promotion through tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani.
General Dwivedi highlighted that the Indian Army’s presence in Kumaon represents “strength with compassion,” balancing its defense operations at the border with a commitment to community upliftment. Concluding his visit, he reaffirmed the Army’s dedication to maintaining operational excellence, enhancing civil-military collaboration, and upholding the institution’s longstanding traditions of duty, honor, and national service.
