Air Marshal Kapoor Pilots Su-30 MKI in Lohegaon to Highlight IAF's Readiness

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command (SWAC), piloted a Su-30 MKI fighter jet at Air Force Station Lohegaon today. This sortie underscored the Indian Air Force's dedication to maintaining operational readiness and achieving air dominance.

Having served for over 35 years since his commissioning in 1986, Air Marshal Kapoor's visit follows the success of Operation Sindoor, which was a precise strike operation targeting terrorist bases across borders. His flight not only highlighted the IAF's frontline fighter capabilities but also demonstrated strong leadership during pivotal times.

SWAC, based in Gandhinagar, is responsible for air operations in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra. It is vital in managing cross-border threats and supporting India's air defense strategy. Air Marshal Kapoor's previous role as Defence Attaché to Pakistan provides strategic insight to his leadership in this sensitive area.

During his presence at the base, he engaged with the air personnel, praising their dedication and operational rigor. The visit also featured a ceremonial inspection and a static display of the Su-30 MKI, a versatile twinjet aircraft originally developed by Sukhoi in Russia and manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. This aircraft, reaching speeds over Mach 2, is equipped with advanced avionics, radar, and weapons systems, and remains central to the IAF's combat forces.

This visit aligns with India's strategic emphasis on bolstering air power and achieving self-reliance in defense technologies. A RAND Corporation study highlighted the importance of continued investment in India's aerial combat capabilities amid increasing regional tensions.

By personally flying the aircraft, Air Marshal Kapoor reinforced the Indian Air Force's commitment to vigilance, professionalism, and the steadfast protection of national security.
