Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra Inspects Forward IAF Bases Amidst Strategic Focus on Western Front

Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, leading the Indian Air Force's Western Air Command, made a significant visit to two forward bases on June 28, underscoring the importance of maintaining operational readiness in the strategically vital western sector. This region is crucial due to its proximity to Pakistan and China, where security situations are constantly changing.

During his visit, Air Marshal Mishra engaged with the Air Warriors stationed at these forward bases, commending their dedication, high morale, and professional conduct. His visit was timely, following the recent Operation Sindoor, which, according to a government briefing, involved targeted strikes on terrorist locations.

Headquartered at Subroto Park in New Delhi, the Western Air Command is integral to the IAF's operations, managing 16 bases critical to national defense. The command has been pivotal in several key missions, such as the air operations during the wars of 1962 and 1971, and it continues to provide logistical support to high-altitude posts like the Siachen Glacier since the 1980s.

Air Marshal Mishra, who assumed leadership on January 1, 2025, has an extensive background with over 3,000 flying hours. His career includes various leadership positions, such as a test pilot and the former Director General of Air Operations. His visit highlights the ongoing efforts to modernize the force to tackle multi-domain security threats.

Air Marshal Mishra's visit further emphasized the need for the IAF to maintain vigilance along the western front. He highlighted the crucial role of personnel at all ranks in protecting national airspace. The IAF is expected to provide more details on operational successes and modernization efforts in the near future.
