Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Reviews Mazagon Dock Readiness for Future Navy Projects in Mumbai
Mumbai, October 25, 2026: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan visited Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai on Saturday and held discussions with the shipyard’s Chairman and Managing Director on its preparedness for upcoming Indian Navy projects.
The visit was aimed at reviewing MDL’s readiness to support future naval construction programmes as the Navy continues to modernise and expand its fleet with indigenously built warships and submarines. The interaction focused on the shipyard’s capabilities, infrastructure and ability to meet the service’s changing operational and technological requirements.
According to MDL, the company reaffirmed its commitment to support the Navy’s future needs and to contribute to India’s long-term maritime security goals.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited has been a key partner in India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding efforts for years. Based in Mumbai, the defence public sector undertaking has become one of the country’s leading builders of frontline warships and submarines.
Its track record includes work on major naval platforms such as stealth destroyers, frigates and conventional submarines. These programmes have helped strengthen the Indian Navy’s operational capability while also reducing dependence on foreign shipbuilding facilities.
The Navy’s collaboration with MDL has also helped build domestic expertise in complex naval engineering, advanced shipbuilding technologies and submarine construction, areas that remain central to India’s naval modernisation drive.
The latest visit comes at a time when India continues to place strong emphasis on defence indigenisation and self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. In that framework, domestic shipyards such as MDL are expected to play an important role in meeting the Navy’s future fleet requirements.
MDL said it is ready to build on its longstanding association with the Indian Navy and contribute to the development of a stronger, technologically advanced and self-reliant maritime force.
The engagement reflects the continuing coordination between the Indian Navy and domestic defence shipbuilders as the service prepares for its next phase of expansion and future naval programmes.
