Will Lt Colonel MS Dhoni Join the Army If War Happens with Pakistan?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, celebrated as one of India's most successful cricket captains, also holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army's Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA Battalion).
His deep respect for the armed forces is well-documented, notably through his active participation in military duties during a 15-day stint in 2019. During this period, Dhoni undertook patrolling, guard, and post duties in the Kashmir Valley as part of the Victor Force, a unit engaged in counter-insurgency operations .
While Dhoni's commitment to the military is evident, it's important to understand the scope of his role. As an honorary officer in the Territorial Army—a reserve force composed of part-time volunteers who support the regular army—his involvement is primarily ceremonial and symbolic .
Honorary ranks, such as Dhoni's, are conferred to recognize individuals' contributions to the nation and to inspire others, rather than to assign them active combat roles.
In the event of a war between India and Pakistan, the deployment of military personnel is determined by the Indian Army's strategic requirements and protocols. Given that honorary officers are not part of the regular army cadre, they are not typically called upon for active combat duties.
Therefore, while Dhoni's patriotism and willingness to serve are unquestionable, his participation in direct military operations during a wartime scenario would be unlikely.
Nonetheless, Dhoni's association with the armed forces serves as a powerful symbol of national unity and pride. His actions have undoubtedly inspired many to consider service to the nation, whether through military or other avenues.
