Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty Takes Command as Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command
Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM, has taken on the role of the 20th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) as of June 1, 2026.
To commemorate his assumption of command, the Flag Officer paid tribute to the nation's fallen heroes by laying a wreath and subsequently inspected a Combined Services Guard of Honour at the Andaman and Nicobar Command. This command is India's foremost integrated operational unit, consisting of personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
Vice Admiral McCarty, a naval officer with extensive experience and high regard, brings a wealth of operational, command, and strategic leadership experience. His career is marked by the command of several frontline warships and leadership of the Western Fleet, a key operational formation of the Indian Navy.

The Flag Officer has occupied several pivotal roles, including Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, where he was instrumental in nurturing future naval leaders. Additionally, he served as India's Defence Adviser to Singapore, enhancing defence diplomacy and bilateral military relations.
Before taking command of the ANC, he was Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation & Training) at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, where he significantly contributed to advancing joint capability development, military integration, and operational synergy among the three Services.
Officials highlighted that his vast experience in joint operations, maritime security, and strategic planning aptly positions him to lead the Andaman and Nicobar Command, crucial for safeguarding India's interests in the Indian Ocean Region and Indo-Pacific.

As Commander-in-Chief, Vice Admiral McCarty will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and integrated operations of India's sole tri-service theatre command, which is essential for maritime security, force projection, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and regional stability.
His appointment coincides with the Indian Armed Forces' growing focus on jointness, integration, and theatre-level operational capabilities to counter emerging security threats.
This transition in leadership signifies a new phase in the advancement of the Andaman and Nicobar Command as a cornerstone of India's strategic and operational framework in the Indo-Pacific region.
