Uttar Pradesh Govt Transfers 20 IPS Officers, Shifts Police Chiefs in 10 Districts
The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday carried out a large-scale reshuffle of the state police, transferring 20 Indian Police Service officers and changing the police leadership in around 10 districts, alongside senior-level adjustments in the Additional Director General cadre.
The transfer orders, reported on 7 October 2026, affect postings in Barabanki, Basti, Jaunpur, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Hapur and Jalaun. They also include changes in the Lucknow and Prayagraj police commissionerates, as well as city-level postings in Bareilly and Azamgarh.
At the senior level, A. Satish Ganesh, an IPS officer of the 1996 batch, has been relieved of the additional charge of Additional Director General (Crime). He will continue in his existing role as ADG, Traffic and Road Safety. Bhagwan Swaroop Srivastava, an IPS officer of the 1998 batch and currently ADG, Technical Services, has been given the additional charge of ADG (Crime).
The reshuffle brought new district police chiefs to several key postings. Ravina Tyagi, IPS 2014 and currently DCP in the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, has been posted as the new police chief of Barabanki, replacing Arpit Vijayvargiya.
In Basti, Omveer Singh, listed as IPS, SPS 2014 and earlier SP, Ballia, has been appointed the new district police chief in place of Yashveer Singh. Yashveer Singh, an IPS officer of the 2013 batch, has in turn been moved from Basti to Jaunpur, where he replaces Kunwar Anupam Singh.
Ballia will now be headed by Iraj Raja, IPS 2017, who was earlier SP, Ghazipur. He replaces Omveer Singh. Ghazipur has been handed over to Vinay Kumar Singh, listed as IPS, SPS 2018, who was serving as SP, Jalaun. He replaces Iraj Raja.
Mau will now be led by Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, listed as IPS, SPS 2018, who was posted as Commandant of the 4th Battalion PAC in Prayagraj. He replaces Kamlesh Bahadur, whose tenure in Mau had begun on 31 March 2026, according to district reporting.
In Muzaffarnagar, Suraj Kumar Rai, IPS 2018 and earlier SP, Baghpat, has been appointed as SSP, replacing Sanjay Kumar. Baghpat will now be headed by Purnendu Singh, listed as IPS, SPS, who has been moved from the post of Staff Officer to the DGP. He replaces Suraj Kumar Rai.
Hapur’s new police chief is Madhuban Kumar Singh, listed as IPS, SPS, who was earlier SP (City), Azamgarh. He replaces Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, who has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Prayagraj Police Commissionerate. Jalaun will now be led by Suresh Chandra Rawat, listed as IPS, SPS, who was serving as SP/Additional SP, Mathura. He replaces Vinay Kumar Singh.
Several other officers were shifted to new assignments outside district police leadership. Kunwar Anupam Singh, IPS 2013 and the outgoing SP of Jaunpur, has been posted as SP, PAC Headquarters, Lucknow. Sanjay Kumar, listed as IPS, SPS 2014 and outgoing SSP of Muzaffarnagar, has been posted as Commandant, 4th Battalion PAC, Prayagraj.
Kamlesh Bahadur, listed as IPS, SPS 2017 and outgoing SP of Mau, has been moved to the post of SP, Public Grievances, at the Director General of Police headquarters in Lucknow. Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, listed as IPS, SPS 2016 and outgoing SP of Hapur, has been posted as DCP in the Prayagraj Police Commissionerate. Arpit Vijayvargiya, IPS 2017 and outgoing SP of Barabanki, has been posted as DCP in the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
Among other changes, Chirag Jain, IPS 2020 and SP (Rural), Azamgarh, has been posted as SP (City), Bareilly. Manush Pareek, IPS 2020, has been posted as SP (Rural), Azamgarh. Alok Raj Narayan, IPS 2022 and Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hardoi, has been posted as Additional SP, Mathura.
The government has not stated any reasons for the reshuffle in the reports available so far. The changes take effect from the issuance of the transfer orders.
