U.S. Authorities Release Updated Photo of Alleged RAW Agent Vikash Yadav Amid Heightened Diplomatic Tensions
In a major development concerning a thwarted assassination attempt on a U.S. citizen, American federal authorities have unveiled a new image of Vikash Yadav, who they allege is the mastermind behind the scheme. Yadav, identified as an Indian national suspected of being an operative for India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is now a key figure in an international investigation that is straining diplomatic relations between Washington and New Delhi.
Yadav is accused of masterminding a murder-for-hire plot targeting Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a U.S. citizen and notable Sikh separatist residing in New York City. The plan, which was intercepted by U.S. federal agents, allegedly involved hiring a hitman via co-conspirator Nikhil Gupta, who has since been extradited to the U.S. and is awaiting trial.
The U.S. Department of Justice has charged Yadav with murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and money laundering, following evidence detailed in a second superseding indictment revealed in October 2023. Authorities assert that Yadav was the handler and primary decision-maker in the operation.
The newly released photograph, part of a recent set of evidence presented to the court, is expected to be critical in locating and capturing Yadav, who is still at large. Law enforcement officials believe the image, which appears to be more recent than previously available photos, could enhance the public's ability to identify him and provide leads on his location.

The photo release coincides with new disclosures linking Yadav to several assassination plots outside U.S. borders. Court documents suggest he may have been involved in a second targeted killing in May 2023, related to the murder of Paramjit Panjwar, a Khalistan Commando Force operative in Lahore.
This alleged connection suggests a broader network of covert operations, with encrypted communications, financial transactions, and email records forming the backbone of the U.S. case against him.

While Washington casts Yadav as an Indian government employee acting with state sanction, New Delhi has denied such involvement, stating an internal investigation is in progress.
