Two Indian Soldiers Martyred in Ongoing 'Operation Akhal' in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam

A prolonged gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district has entered its ninth day, resulting in the deaths of two Indian Army personnel overnight.

The soldiers, identified as Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh by the Chinar Corps, were honored for their valiant efforts and condolences were offered to their bereaved families. Since the commencement of the operation on August 1, eleven additional security personnel have sustained injuries.

Dubbed Operation Akhal, this joint effort by the Army and police was initiated based on intelligence reports suggesting terrorist activity in the Akhal forest area. The operation has so far resulted in the deaths of two terrorists.

To track and eliminate the militants, security forces have employed drones, helicopters, and para commandos. The operation is under the direct supervision of senior officers, including Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat and Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma.

Officials have stated that the operation will persist until all terrorists are neutralized, marking it as one of the lengthiest anti-terror missions in the region in recent times.
