Two Brothers Retire from Indian Army on the Same Day After 30 Years

In a rare and inspiring coincidence, two brothers from Bharnot village in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district — Subedar Sansar Chand and Havildar Kamaldev — retired from the Indian Army on the same day after serving the nation with unwavering dedication for 30 and 26 years respectively.

 


 

The heartfelt farewell, held in their native village, was graced by the presence of local MLA Ashish Sharma, who honored the veterans for their remarkable contribution to national security. The event turned into a celebration of the family’s rich legacy of military service, as villagers gathered to applaud their decades-long commitment.

What makes this moment even more special is the family's deep-rooted tradition of serving in the armed forces. Their grandfather and father were also proud members of the Indian Army, and now, the next generation — their nephew — continues the legacy, currently serving in the military. This makes the family a symbol of four generations of unbroken service to the motherland.

MLA Ashish Sharma said during the event, “These two brothers have spent the prime of their youth protecting our borders. Their story is not just of duty, but of sacrifice and inspiration. Families like theirs are the backbone of our nation’s defence, and we owe them our heartfelt gratitude.”

Both brothers, accompanied by their wives at the ceremony, shared emotional moments as they recalled their journey in the Army. They expressed pride in their service and gratitude for the love and support of their village and the Army fraternity.

This touching story stands as a powerful reminder of the countless families across India who silently dedicate generation after generation to the service of the nation. The Bharnot family’s unwavering commitment exemplifies valor, discipline, and patriotism, making them a beacon of inspiration for all.
