Trishakti Corps Flags Off 24-Member Army Expedition to 7,264-Metre Mount Domekhang in Sikkim

The Trishakti Corps has flagged off a 24-member Indian Army mountaineering team for an ascent of Mount Domekhang, a 7,264-metre peak in North Sikkim, setting the stage for another demanding high-altitude expedition in the eastern Himalayas.

The mission, named “Arohan Ajeya”, is intended to assess the endurance, technical mountaineering ability, teamwork and mental resilience of the participating personnel as they face one of the most difficult natural environments in the region. With steep slopes, freezing temperatures, severe weather and thin air, the climb will push the team through conditions that are among the most challenging for any mountaineer.

Operating above 7,000 metres requires sustained physical conditioning, careful acclimatisation and precise coordination, and the Army team will have to manage all three as it moves towards the summit. The terrain in North Sikkim is particularly demanding, making disciplined movement and close cooperation essential throughout the expedition.

Beyond the climb itself, the expedition is designed to strengthen the mountaineering experience of Army personnel serving in high-altitude areas. Such exercises are viewed within the force as a practical way to build confidence, resilience and unit cohesion among troops who are often required to operate in extreme mountain conditions.

The 24-member team will depend on collective effort and disciplined execution as it tackles the ascent. At this altitude, success depends not only on individual stamina and skill but also on the ability of each member to support the others and maintain cohesion in severe conditions.

The expedition was formally launched by the General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps, who flagged off the team and marked the beginning of the mission. The ceremony also served as an encouragement to the personnel as they prepared for the demanding climb ahead.

The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued focus on adventure activities and mountaineering as tools for developing leadership, physical fitness, mental toughness and perseverance among its soldiers. Expeditions such as this one are part of a broader effort to sharpen the qualities needed for service in demanding operational environments.

Mount Domekhang, which rises to 7,264 metres in the eastern Himalayas, will present the team with a rigorous test of preparation and capability. Under the banner of “Arohan Ajeya”, the expedition carries the spirit of collective determination, expressed in the phrase “One Team, One Summit, Unwavering Spirit.”
