Southern Command Highlights Strategic Role of Atulya Abhra Regiment in Air Defence

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, who leads the Southern Command, conducted a review of the Atulya Abhra Regiment in Pune. This regiment is a pivotal part of the First to Strike Air Defence Brigade and plays a vital role in neutralizing aerial threats as part of the Army's integrated Air Defence Network, ensuring the protection of Indian airspace.

During his visit, Lt Gen Seth commended the unit for its professionalism and exceptional operational performance, especially highlighting its role in Operation Sindoor. This operation involved precision strikes on terrorist camps following the Pahalgam terror attack. He stressed the importance of maintaining a constant state of readiness while interacting with the troops.

The Atulya Abhra Regiment is part of the Army's Corps of Air Defence, which was formed in 1994. It has transformed from 33 anti-aircraft units dating back to World War II into a contemporary force equipped with advanced missile defence systems. This transformation aligns with India's strategic emphasis on air defence modernization, addressing increasing regional aerial threats.

The Southern Command, which has a history dating back to 1895 and played a significant role in the 1961 liberation of Goa, continues to enhance India's defensive stance. The visit highlighted the Army's dedication to precision, coordination, and national security, reinforcing its strategic readiness against modern threats.
