Childhood Friends from Manipur Commissioned as Indian Army Officers

In a remarkable story of friendship and aspiration, six men from Manipur, who first met as sixth-grade classmates at Sainik School Imphal in 2013, have realized their long-held dream of becoming Indian Army officers. Lieutenants Thokchom Shiggarth, M Denish Singh, Naoton Maetei, Naoba, Meghnat Soibam, and Ronendro Angom were recently commissioned at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.

A Friendship Forged in Purpose

Their journey began over ten years ago with their enrollment at Sainik School Imphal, a leading institution focused on preparing students for military careers. Driven by a common goal of serving their country, the group formed a strong bond, which was reinforced through years of demanding academic and physical training.

After passing the renowned National Defence Academy (NDA) examination in 2021, they spent three years training at the NDA before moving on to the Indian Military Academy for advanced military preparation.

Rising Against the Odds

These officers hail from humble backgrounds, with families involved in farming, small businesses, or traditional vocations. Their achievement underscores their discipline, perseverance, and the unwavering support of their families. Many of them are the first in their families to join the Army.

Lt. Ronendro Angom remarked, “We’ve been together since Class 6. Our shared dream helped us overcome every challenge. Becoming officers together is not just a personal victory but a source of pride for all of Manipur.”

A Beacon of Hope for Manipur

Their success is particularly significant against the backdrop of recent ethnic and civil unrest in Manipur. In the face of uncertainty and conflict, these young officers represent hope, unity, and the strength of dedication.

“We want the youth of Manipur to understand that no dream is too big,” expressed Lt. M Denish Singh. “With dedication and proper guidance, anything is achievable.”

New Roles, Unbreakable Bond

Although the six friends will now serve in different regions across India, their connection remains strong. They continue to motivate each other as they embark on their respective paths as Army officers.

The commissioning event at the IMA’s Khetarpal Auditorium was attended by their proud families, senior military officials, and dignitaries, celebrating both their individual success and the unique unity they embody.

As they begin their service to the nation, these six officers from Manipur exemplify courage, friendship, and an unwavering sense of purpose, demonstrating that childhood dreams can indeed become reality through unity and determination.
