Shri ML Kom Assumes Command of BRO’s Project Hirak at Tanakpur
Shri ML Kom, Chief Engineer, has taken over command of Project Hirak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), succeeding Shri RS Rao, Chief Engineer, VSM. The change places him in charge of one of the BRO’s key projects, which is tasked with building, maintaining and upgrading strategic road infrastructure in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand and in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
Headquartered at Tanakpur, Project Hirak operates in some of the most difficult and geographically demanding terrain under the BRO’s responsibility. Its work is closely tied to strategic connectivity, helping improve movement across remote areas where road access is often limited and weather or terrain can complicate maintenance and construction.
The project’s role extends beyond routine road works. By supporting dependable connectivity in border and remote regions, it aids the movement of personnel, equipment and essential supplies, while also contributing to mobility, accessibility and operational preparedness. In the Kumaon region, this is especially important because of the difficult Himalayan landscape and the need to maintain reliable access in border areas. In Chhattisgarh, the project’s infrastructure activity supports connectivity in areas affected by LWE.
On assuming command, Shri ML Kom said he remained committed to quality infrastructure, professional excellence and timely execution of assigned projects. He also highlighted the need to uphold the standards associated with the Border Roads Organisation while continuing the work and legacy established by his predecessor.
The transition marks the start of a new phase for Project Hirak, with Shri ML Kom now overseeing infrastructure development and maintenance across its varied operational areas. The BRO’s emphasis remains on professional leadership and timely delivery of strategic connectivity projects, particularly in regions where road infrastructure has direct implications for both security and development.
Project Hirak is part of the BRO’s wider effort to develop infrastructure across challenging terrain as part of its contribution to national security, connectivity and nation-building. Under the new leadership, the project is expected to continue advancing road infrastructure in the areas under its jurisdiction in line with the organisation’s guiding philosophy, “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” — through hard work, everything is achievable.
