RIMC Releases Written Results for January 2027 Term, 214 Candidates Qualify for Viva-Voce
The Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, has released the state-wise written results of its Entrance Examination held in June 2026 for admission to Class VIII in the term beginning January 2027. The results were published on the official website, rimc.edu.in, on 19 August 2026.
Separate state-wise PDFs have been issued for boys and girls, along with summary lists of all candidates who cleared the written stage. According to the official results, 168 boys and 46 girls have qualified for the next round, the viva-voce.
What RIMC is and why the result matters
Founded in 1922, RIMC is among India’s oldest military schools and is based at Garhi Cantt in Dehradun. Functioning under the Ministry of Defence, it serves as a key feeder institution for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Naval Academy. Admissions are made only to Class VIII, and the college typically inducts around 25 cadets every six months. Both boys and girls are eligible to apply.
Because of the limited number of seats and the multi-stage selection process, clearing the written examination is only the first step. Candidates now move on to the viva-voce, followed by medical examination for those who qualify further.
The written examination was held on 7 June 2026, a Sunday, at centres across various states. It tested candidates in three subjects: Mathematics, General Knowledge and English. Mathematics carried the highest weightage, followed by English and General Knowledge.
How the June 2026 examination was structured
Mathematics and General Knowledge could be attempted in Hindi or English, while the English paper had to be answered only in English. Candidates were required to score at least 50% in each subject to qualify. In the result PDFs, those who cleared all three subjects are shown in bold, or marked “Qualified” in the remarks column.

For the January 2027 term, eligibility was restricted to candidates aged between 11½ and 13 years as on 1 January 2027. In practical terms, applicants had to be born not earlier than 2 January 2014 and not later than 1 July 2015. They also had to be studying in Class VII or have passed Class VII from a recognised school by the time of admission.
The official summary released by RIMC shows that 168 boys and 46 girls cleared the written examination. The state-wise breakup indicates that a few states accounted for a large share of the successful candidates, while several others recorded no qualifiers in one or both categories.
State-wise performance in the written exam
Among boys, Uttar Pradesh led with 38 qualifiers, followed by Bihar with 27. Haryana had 16 successful candidates, Maharashtra 13, Madhya Pradesh 12, Uttarakhand 11 and Rajasthan 10.
Among girls, Uttar Pradesh again topped the list with 7 qualifiers, followed by Bihar with 6. Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh had 3 successful candidates each.
The state-wise PDFs show that some states and Union Territories registered zero qualifications in one or both categories, including Goa, Kerala and Odisha for girls in several instances, and Tamil Nadu for boys. The spread reflects the demanding nature of the examination and the limited number of candidates who make it through the written stage.

What happens next
Candidates who have cleared the written exam will now be called for the viva-voce, which carries 50 marks. The interview will be conducted by the respective state governments at venues within the state. State authorities will directly inform qualified candidates of the date, time and place, and will also send a copy of the communication to RIMC.
The viva-voce is meant to assess intelligence, personality, confidence and communication skills. To pass this stage, candidates must secure at least 50% marks.
Those who clear the interview will then undergo a medical examination at designated military hospitals. Only candidates found medically fit will be considered for the final merit list and admission.
The final selection will depend on combined performance in the written examination and viva-voce, subject to medical fitness and the availability of vacancies. RIMC has indicated that there are approximately 25 seats per term.
Important points for candidates and parents
The result PDFs include detailed marks in Mathematics, English and General Knowledge for every candidate who appeared. An “AB” entry in the marks column indicates absence in that subject.
Candidates have been advised to keep checking their respective state education department or public service commission websites for viva-voce schedules, since RIMC itself does not conduct the interviews. They should also keep original documents ready for the next stages, including the birth certificate, school certificate, domicile certificate, category certificate if applicable, Aadhaar and photographs.
