Pakistan, Muslim Nations Criticize US Military Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites

Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of recent United States military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, describing them as breaches of international law and norms. The attacks, which targeted nuclear sites in Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz, were reportedly intended to undermine Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Pakistan's Foreign Office released a statement expressing deep concern over the potential for regional conflict escalation and emphasized Iran's right to self-defense, as outlined by the United Nations Charter.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted the importance of safeguarding civilian lives and infrastructure, calling on all involved parties to respect international humanitarian law. Pakistan stressed that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable solutions to such crises.

This condemnation follows closely after Pakistan expressed support for US President Donald Trump's nomination for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his mediation efforts in the recent India-Pakistan conflict. The timing of these statements has drawn attention, illustrating the complexity and dynamism of Pakistan's foreign policy in the region.

The opposition party in Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), also released a statement criticizing the US action. PTI accused the United States of violating Iranian sovereignty and suggested that Israel influenced Washington's decision to carry out the strikes, despite a lack of definitive evidence of Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities. PTI leaders attributed the heightened tensions in the Middle East to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Several other Muslim-majority countries echoed Pakistan's concerns. Saudi Arabia reiterated its disapproval of violations against Iranian sovereignty, while Qatar warned of serious regional and international consequences if the situation worsens. Iraq and Oman also urged restraint and advocated for a return to diplomatic solutions.

The widespread condemnation from the Islamic world underscores increasing unease over the potential repercussions of renewed US-Iran hostilities and signifies a collective appeal for restraint and adherence to international norms in an already unstable region.
