Operation Safed Sagar Veteran Amit Kumar Gupta Alleges Iron Rod Attack by Parking Attendant in Gurugram

A Kargil War veteran who served in the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar has alleged that he was assaulted with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, leaving him with serious injuries to his head and hand. Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) has sought strict action against the accused and said he did not receive adequate help from security staff or police after the incident.

According to Gupta’s complaint, the incident took place on Thursday night when he had gone with his family to Gonzo restaurant at Magnum Global Park for dinner. Around 8 pm, after dropping off his family members at the restaurant, he went to park his vehicle.

Gupta alleged that he was sent back and forth between different parking arrangements, including valet service, basement parking and multilevel parking, before the parking staff finally refused to park the vehicle. He said the dispute escalated when a parking attendant struck the windshield of his car while he was trying to reverse.

He claimed that he stepped out to protest and was then attacked. According to Gupta, the parking attendant picked up an iron rod and struck him twice, hitting his hand and head. Speaking to NDTV, he said he was left drenched in blood after the alleged assault.

Gupta also alleged that the accused threatened to kill him during the confrontation. He said security personnel and other parking staff present at the site did not intervene to protect him.

In his account, Gupta said he tried to call the police helpline, but help did not arrive for about half an hour. He alleged that it was only after a chef stepped in that the confrontation was brought under control and prevented from worsening further.

He was later taken to Medanta Hospital by ambulance. According to the report, he suffered injuries to his head and elbow and underwent surgery in which the elbow bone was fused with plates.

Gupta has described the assault as sudden and unprovoked, saying he had no chance to defend himself. He has also raised questions about the medical records prepared after the incident, alleging that the hospital’s medico-legal case report did not mention the bleeding and elbow injury he says he sustained.

In his police complaint, Gupta has sought registration of an FIR and action on charges including attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt. He has also alleged a lack of support from the police and urged authorities to take strict action against the person he accuses of assault.

The allegations are now part of a police complaint, and the exact sequence of events, as well as the responsibility of those involved, will have to be established through investigation and due legal process.

The case has drawn attention because of Gupta’s military background. He served with the Indian Air Force during Operation Safed Sagar, the air operation carried out during the 1999 Kargil War to support Indian ground forces and counter Pakistani intrusions in the high-altitude Kargil sector.

Operation Safed Sagar was among the Indian Air Force’s most demanding wartime deployments. Aircraft operated in extremely difficult mountainous terrain, at high altitude and under challenging tactical conditions.

The operation became an important part of Indian military aviation history, highlighting the role of air power in supporting ground operations during the Kargil conflict. Air Force personnel involved in the campaign worked under intense operational pressure while contributing to India’s effort to regain positions occupied by Pakistani forces.

Gupta’s association with Operation Safed Sagar has added public attention to his allegations from Gurugram. The incident has also brought back focus on the difficulties veterans can face when dealing with civilian institutions and authorities after leaving military service.

For former service personnel, the shift from a structured military environment to civilian life can mean major changes in the support systems, accountability mechanisms and institutional assistance available to them. Cases involving veterans often prompt wider discussion about the need for prompt and fair handling of their complaints.

At the same time, the allegations in this case remain subject to investigation. A police complaint reflects the complainant’s version of events, while the facts surrounding the alleged assault, the conduct of the accused and the response of security and police personnel will have to be determined through the proper legal process.
