The National Security Guard (NSG), in coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), carried out a high-intensity Train Intervention Exercise today at Katra Railway Station. The simulation, conducted aboard a Vande Bharat Express, aimed to enhance inter-agency coordination and readiness to tackle potential terrorist threats, thereby strengthening passenger safety on one of India’s premier semi-high-speed trains.

Katra, a key pilgrimage destination for devotees of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, holds strategic importance in the region. With Indian Railways expanding its Vande Bharat services—most notably a new route between Katra and Srinagar set to launch in February 2025—the exercise emphasized the need for heightened security along this critical corridor. The Vande Bharat Express, known for its speed and cutting-edge features, is a flagship of India's railway modernization, making it a potential target for disruptive forces.

The drill featured realistic scenarios designed to test operational preparedness, coordination, and rapid response. NSG commandos, supported by personnel from the J&K Police and RPF, executed tactical maneuvers to neutralize simulated threats. The focus was on seamless cooperation among forces and minimizing response time in crisis situations.

Katra’s role as a transit point for the upcoming Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat service—where passengers will undergo mandatory transfers for security and health screenings—further underlines the necessity of such proactive exercises.

This joint initiative reflects a vigilant and collaborative approach to protecting critical transport infrastructure, especially in light of increasing security challenges across the Jammu and Kashmir region. As the Indian Railways extends its reach deeper into the Himalayas, maintaining a robust security apparatus remains a top priority.
