NDA 149th Passing Out Parade Held on November 30, 2025: Celebrating the Next Generation of Military Leaders
On November 30, 2025, the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune, held its 149th Course Passing Out Parade, marking the completion of rigorous training for cadets who are set to become officers in the Indian Armed Forces. This significant biannual event, traditionally taking place in May and November, signifies the culmination of three years of academic, physical, and leadership development for cadets, preparing them for further training at specialized academies such as the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, or Air Force Academy.
The parade began at around 06:30 AM and was broadcast live on YouTube, allowing families, veterans, and the general public to witness the event. The ceremony featured precision drills, a march past, an oath-taking session, and the symbolic "Antim Pag," the final march as NDA cadets. Awards were presented to honor excellence in academics, leadership, and physical training, followed by the pipping ceremony where cadets received their service ranks. Prior to the parade, on November 29, 2025, a convocation ceremony awarded degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University to the graduating cadets, highlighting their educational achievements alongside their military training.
The 149th Course included cadets from diverse backgrounds, with a notable increase in female participants since their inclusion in 2021. Building on the milestone of the 148th Course, which saw 17 female cadets graduate, this event celebrated the transformation of young individuals into disciplined officers ready to serve the nation, although specific numbers for the 149th Course were not immediately released.
Distinguished Guests and Addresses
Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, served as the Reviewing Officer and chief guest, overseeing the parade and addressing the cadets. In his speech, Admiral Tripathi highlighted the critical role of technology in modern warfare, describing it as "our greatest future asset" for military leaders. He encouraged the graduates to embrace innovation while maintaining the values of integrity, honor, and national service. His presence reinforced the NDA's tri-service ethos, promoting collaboration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The event also included preparatory activities, such as the NDA Expo for the Autumn Term 2025, which was inaugurated on November 27 by Mrs. Shalini Jaggi. This expo showcased the skills of cadets through 25 hobby clubs, with outstanding participants receiving book prizes and proficiency certificates.
Significance and Legacy
The Passing Out Parade is not merely a military ceremony; it embodies national pride and the enduring legacy of the NDA, which was established in 1954 as the world's first tri-service academy. For the cadets, the parade marks a significant emotional transition, symbolized by the farewell tune of Auld Lang Syne. In an era of evolving security challenges, the event highlights the importance of adaptability, as emphasized by Admiral Tripathi's focus on technology.
This ceremony continues to inspire aspiring defence personnel, with the NDA promoting gender equality in the armed forces through its inclusive policies. As India enhances its defence capabilities, events like the 149th Passing Out Parade ensure a continuous influx of capable leaders dedicated to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.
