Muzaffarpur Soldier Falls in Line of Duty in Arunachal Pradesh Accident

A tragic incident has unfolded in Siuri Aima village, located in Muzaffarpur district's Saraiya block, following the death of Subedar Rakesh Kumar Singh, a 50-year-old member of the Indian Army. He perished in a fatal accident while on duty in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.

The accident occurred on August 13 when an Army truck, transporting personnel, plunged into a deep gorge, causing several soldiers to go missing. Among them was Subedar Singh. After nearly a week of relentless search efforts, a naval rescue team discovered his body on Monday evening, approximately 12 kilometres from the site of the accident. His body was found lodged between two large boulders in a stream.

Army officials formally relayed the news of the recovery to Singh's family, casting the household into a period of mourning.

Subedar Singh's military career began in 1994, marking over three decades of dedicated service to the nation. He was part of the 108 Engineer Regiment and was just six months shy of retiring in January 2026. His untimely death, so near to the completion of his service, has left his family and the village in deep sorrow.

The villagers fondly remember him as a modest, helpful, and patriotic individual. "We have lost a true son of the soil. He was always ready to help others and was deeply respected in the community," remarked Khemchand Kushwaha, a former Saraiya BJP Mandal President and a neighbour.

Subedar Singh leaves behind his wife, a son, and a daughter who live in Dhanbad, while his elderly father resides in their ancestral village. Upon hearing the tragic news, the family promptly traveled to Siuri Aima, where the community gathered to offer their condolences.

The Army has arranged for Subedar Singh's remains to be airlifted to Danapur Army Camp, with the transfer taking place on Tuesday evening. His body will subsequently be taken to his native village by Wednesday afternoon, where he will receive a burial with full military honours.

Thousands, including villagers, local leaders, and officials, are expected to attend his final procession, paying their last respects. Leaders from the block and district have expressed their sympathies, acknowledging his sacrifice as an immeasurable loss to the community and a proud testament to his service to the country.
