MoD Inks ₹975 Crore Contracts for Indigenous TRAWL Systems to Enhance Army's Minefield Breaching Abilities

The Ministry of Defence has finalized contracts valued at ₹975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India Private Limited. These contracts are for acquiring TRAWL Assembly systems intended for T-72 and T-90 tanks.

The signing of these agreements took place in New Delhi, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh present.

The TRAWL system, created by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, serves as essential combat engineering equipment. Its purpose is to create safe pathways for vehicles through minefields, neutralize anti-tank mines equipped with magnetic proximity fuses, and enhance the mobility of armoured units in combat scenarios.

With the induction of TRAWL assemblies, the combat capabilities and survivability of the Indian Army's armoured units will be significantly improved, especially during offensive operations in areas with extensive minefields.

This procurement initiative falls under the ‘Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, underscoring India's aim for self-reliance in the defence sector.

The project is anticipated to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, increase the participation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in defence production, and bolster India's indigenous defence industrial ecosystem.

The agreement represents a major advancement in modernizing India's armoured capabilities, fostering domestic innovation, and reducing reliance on foreign defence systems.
