Shravan Singh

In the scorching heat of Punjab’s Tara Wali village, while the echo of gunfire reverberated across the border, a 10-year-old boy stepped up with an act of quiet heroism. His name is Shravan Singh — and though he wore no uniform and held no rifle, his courage matched that of the finest warriors.

On April 22, 2025, a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, sparking Operation Sindoor, a decisive and large-scale military response by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. As soldiers took their positions along the volatile India-Pakistan border, young Shravan Singh from Ferozepur district emerged as an unexpected symbol of hope, humanity, and patriotism.

Instead of being confined by fear, Shravan made daily rounds to support the troops stationed on his family's farmland. Armed with nothing but his dedication and a heart full of love for the nation, he brought water, milk, lassi, and ice — small gestures that meant the world to the soldiers facing unimaginable heat and tension.

"I wasn't scared," Shravan told India Today. "I want to be a soldier when I grow up. I used to bring water, lassi, and ice for the soldiers. They loved me a lot."

The impact of his service didn't go unnoticed. In a heartfelt ceremony, Major General Ranjit Singh Manral, GOC of the 7th Infantry Division, honoured Shravan for his unwavering commitment. He was gifted a memento, treated to a special meal, and delighted with his favourite dessert — ice cream.

His father, Sona Singh, beamed with pride. “The Army was stationed on our land. From day one, Shravan helped them. He never missed a single day. We stood by him. He stood by them.”

Shravan's story has since gone viral, a reminder that true patriotism isn't measured by age or rank, but by the heart and courage to serve — even in the smallest of ways.

In the official accounts of Operation Sindoor, there will be reports of airstrikes, strategy, and sacrifice. But beyond the battlefield tactics, India will remember Shravan Singh — the boy who served his nation not with arms, but with compassion.
