Meet Lieutenant Bhanvi Shekhawat: Rajasthan Teacher Couple’s Daughter Who Cleared NEET and Joined the Army Medical Corps

In a proud moment for Rajasthan and the Indian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Bhanvi Shekhawat has been commissioned into the Army Medical Corps after successfully completing her MBBS from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Hailing from a modest teacher couple’s family, her journey from a small village in Jhunjhunu district to wearing the olive green uniform as a medical officer stands as an inspiring example for defence aspirants across the country.

Roots in Rural Rajasthan

Bhanvi Shekhawat originally belongs to Jakhal village in Nawalgarh tehsil of Jhunjhunu district. Her family has been residing in Rajaldesar town of Churu district for the past 28 years. Both her parents are government teachers father Deependra Singh Shekhawat and mother Renu Rathod (also referred to as Renu Rathore).

Her grandfather, Krishnavardhan Singh Shekhawat, had served in the Indian Air Force. Continuing this family tradition of military service, Bhanvi has now become the first daughter from both her ancestral village of Jakhal and her hometown of Rajaldesar to earn a commission as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army.

Academic Journey: From Local Schools to AFMC Pune

Bhanvi’s educational path reflects steady determination and focused preparation:

• She completed her primary education at Adarsh Vidya Mandir in Rajaldesar.
• Secondary education was pursued at Bhartiya International School (also referred to as Bharti International School), Rajaldesar.
• For competitive exam foundation, she attended Guru Kripa Coaching Institute in Sikar.
• In 2021, she cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
• On the basis of her NEET score, she secured admission to the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in 2022.

AFMC Pune is one of India’s most competitive and prestigious medical institutions, offering a dual pathway of medical education and a guaranteed career as a commissioned officer in the Armed Forces Medical Services. Bhanvi successfully completed the rigorous four-year MBBS programme at the college.

Commissioning into the Army Medical Corps

On 10 July 2026, Bhanvi Shekhawat was commissioned as a Lieutenant during the Passing Out Parade of the H3 batch (60th batch) of AFMC Pune. The ceremonial parade was held at the Capt Devashish Sharma, Kirti Chakra Parade Ground.

A total of 141 medical graduates were commissioned that day into the Armed Forces Medical Services 112 into the Indian Army, 12 into the Indian Navy, and 17 into the Indian Air Force. The parade was reviewed by Surg Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, who attended as the Chief Guest. Lieutenant Nikhil Kumar Jha commanded the parade.

With her commissioning, Bhanvi formally joined the Army Medical Corps and became part of the larger Armed Forces Medical Services. Medical officers of the AMC serve not only in military hospitals but also in field formations, operational areas, disaster relief, and humanitarian missions, combining clinical expertise with military discipline.

Next Assignment: Internship at Eastern Command Hospital, Kolkata

Following the completion of her MBBS, Lieutenant Bhanvi Shekhawat will undergo her internship at the Eastern Command Hospital (Command Hospital, Eastern Command) in Kolkata. During this period, she will receive specialised training in military medical services, preparing her for independent responsibilities as a medical officer in the Indian Army.
