Meet Assistant Commandant Nishi Sharma: From Army Brat to Republic Day Parade Contingent Commander
Assistant Commandant Nishi Sharma stands as a distinguished officer in the Indian Coast Guard, embodying the ideals of leadership, resilience, and national service. As the Contingent Commander of the all-women Indian Coast Guard contingent for the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path, she will lead a contingent that highlights the organization's commitment to maritime security and gender equality. This prestigious role marks her second participation in the Republic Day parade, underscoring her growing stature within the force.
Born into a family deeply rooted in military tradition, Assistant Commandant Sharma is a second-generation defence officer. Her father and brother serve in the Indian Army, instilling in her the values of discipline, duty, and sacrifice from an early age. Raised in the structured environment of an Army Public School, she developed a strong foundation in the ethos of uniformed service. She pursued her higher education at Miranda House, University of Delhi, where she honed her academic and personal capabilities before embarking on her career in the Indian Coast Guard.

Throughout her service, Assistant Commandant Sharma has demonstrated exceptional professional excellence. She has served as an instructor at the prestigious Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala, where she trains and mentors aspiring naval and coast guard officers. In this role, she exemplifies the highest standards of leadership and inspires young cadets through her dedication and achievements.
Her participation in the Republic Day parade reflects the Indian Coast Guard's pioneering efforts in integrating women into combat and operational roles. She previously marched in a mixed contingent, contributing to the organization's representation on the national stage. In her current assignment, she will lead the all-women contingent, assisted by Assistant Commandant Apurva Gautam Hore, Assistant Commandant Lakshita, and Assistant Commandant Hardik, showcasing India's maritime prowess along its extensive coastline.

Beyond her command responsibilities, Assistant Commandant Sharma has excelled in physical and endurance challenges. In a recent remarkable achievement, she secured first place in the female category of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) Triathlon, a demanding event comprising 3.8 km of sea swimming, 180 km of cycling, and a 42.2 km run. This victory not only brought laurels to the Indian Coast Guard but also reinforced her embodiment of Nari Shakti women's power while serving as an inspiration to colleagues and future leaders.
