Major General Sanjay Maurya Takes Command as AICTS Pune's New Commandant

Major General Sanjay Maurya, VSM, has taken on the role of Commandant at the Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AICTS) in Pune as of July 20, 2026. Maj Gen Maurya, a highly regarded officer within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), brings an extensive background in military medicine, academic achievement, and hospital leadership to his new position.

A graduate of the esteemed Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, Maj Gen Maurya is recognized nationally as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. His career is marked by his proficiency in intricate reconstructive surgeries and significant advancements in surgical care for the Armed Forces. Alongside his clinical endeavors, he is also a respected postgraduate educator who has guided numerous military surgeons and medical professionals.

Throughout his career, Maj Gen Maurya has held several key positions. He has been the Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at both AFMC Pune and the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi, two of the top military medical facilities in the nation. In these roles, he was instrumental in promoting clinical excellence, specialized training, and medical research, significantly advancing reconstructive surgery within the Armed Forces Medical Services.

His leadership experience includes commanding the 92 Base Hospital in an operational zone, where he managed essential medical support in demanding conditions. He also led the Command Hospital (Eastern Command) in Kolkata, one of the largest tertiary care military hospitals in Eastern India, showcasing exceptional administrative and healthcare leadership skills.

Maj Gen Maurya has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in recognition of his distinguished service, highlighting his exceptional contributions to military healthcare, patient care, medical education, and institutional development over the years.

As the new Commandant of AICTS Pune, Maj Gen Maurya is expected to enhance the institute's reputation as a leading center in transfusion medicine, specialized healthcare, medical research, and professional training. His extensive experience in surgery, academics, and command roles is anticipated to bolster the institute's capabilities and support the ongoing modernization of healthcare services for the Indian Armed Forces.
