Major General Anil Kumar Assumes Command of High Altitude Warfare School

Major General Anil Kumar, KC, has been appointed as the Commandant of the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg, a renowned institution for training in mountain and high-altitude warfare. This leadership change at the esteemed facility is significant as it continues to prepare military personnel from India and abroad for operations in challenging terrains.

Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), extended congratulations to Major General Anil Kumar on his new role, wishing him a successful term at the helm of the distinguished institution.

Major General Anil Kumar, a recipient of the Kirti Chakra, India's second-highest peacetime gallantry honor, brings extensive operational experience and battlefield leadership to his new position. His military career has been marked by notable courage, dedication, and service in demanding environments, making him well-qualified to lead the Indian Army's specialized training school.

Situated in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, HAWS is globally recognized for its expertise in mountain warfare, snowcraft, icecraft, and high-altitude operations. The school trains officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, and soldiers from the Indian Army and also offers specialized courses to personnel from friendly foreign nations, establishing it as a premier center for high-altitude military training.

HAWS is critical for enhancing the Indian Army's operational capabilities by preparing troops for missions in mountainous terrains, glaciated areas, and under extreme weather conditions. The rigorous training programs include mountain survival, specialized combat techniques, avalanche rescue, skiing, mountaineering, and tactical operations in high-altitude settings.

In his new role, Major General Anil Kumar will oversee the development of training curricula, infrastructure, and operational readiness at HAWS.
