Lt Gen Vijay B Nair Conducts Security Review at Vajra Division, Kashmir
In a significant move underscoring the Indian Army's commitment to national security, Lt Gen Vijay B Nair, Chief of Staff of the Northern Command, conducted a thorough review of the security arrangements at the Vajr Division in Kashmir on July 3, 2025.
During his visit, Lt Gen Nair received an extensive briefing on the division’s operational readiness, surveillance capabilities, and combat preparedness. The review takes place amidst increasing cross-border incidents, highlighting the urgent need for real-time threat assessment and adaptable strategies. Lt Gen Nair emphasized the importance of continuous vigilance and advocated for innovation in training methods to address the evolving challenges in the sensitive region.
The inspection also featured a tour of a modern command center equipped with advanced battlefield management systems. By adopting global best practices, including those utilized by NATO forces, the Indian Army is actively integrating air and digital technology to enhance combat efficiency. A study by the RAND Corporation indicates that such integration can enhance operational capabilities by up to 25%. During the inspection, a helicopter escort underscored the Army’s focus on mobility and coordination in challenging terrain.
Lt Gen Nair highlighted the importance of technological advancements, especially AI-driven surveillance tools, in strengthening border monitoring. A 2024 report by the DRDO noted a 30% improvement in real-time threat detection along sensitive sectors of the northern border.
With extensive operational experience, Lt Gen Nair is an alumnus of both the National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy. He has commanded an infantry battalion and has been instrumental in modernizing operational doctrines across formations under the Northern Command.
