Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh Takes Over as Army Training Command Chief in Shimla
Lieutenant General Shrinjay Pratap Singh, AVSM, YSM, took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on October 1, 2026, succeeding Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma. On assuming charge, he paid homage to the Bravehearts at the Shradhanjali Sthal and reviewed the Guard of Honour in a solemn ceremony.
ARTRAC is the Indian Army’s training command, and the appointment places Lt Gen Singh at the helm of the institution responsible for shaping doctrine, training standards and professional military education across the force. In his first interaction after taking over, he addressed the trainers and trainees of the command and praised their diligence, dedication and devotion to preparing the Indian Army.

He called on all ranks to continue striving for excellence and to maintain the same zeal in preparing for future wars across the entire spectrum of conflict. He also stressed the need for sustained training and professional development to keep pace with the changing requirements of warfare.
In his message to personnel at ARTRAC, Lt Gen Singh urged them to uphold the Dharma of a Warrior and pursue excellence in the art and science of warfare through knowledge, vision and training. His remarks reflected the central role that military education and training play in building operational readiness and adapting the Army for future challenges.
Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment from the Indian Military Academy on June 10, 1989. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has held a wide range of command and staff appointments in field, operational and institutional roles.
He has commanded an infantry battalion in the semi-desert sector, a brigade during counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir, and a division on the eastern borders. His staff appointments have included Colonel General Staff of an Infantry Division and Brigadier General Staff at Headquarters XV Corps.
As a Major General, he served as the General Officer Commanding of the 21st Mountain Division. After his promotion to Lieutenant General in 2023, he took command of IX Corps on June 9, 2023. He later served as Chief of Staff, Southern Command, before being appointed Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Intelligence) on May 31, 2025.

Lt Gen Singh is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has also attended the Army War College, Mhow, and the United States Army War College, Carlisle. Academically, he holds a master’s degree from the University of Madras and an MPhil from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.
He has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Yudh Seva Medal, and has also received a Chief of Army Staff Commendation. His appointment at ARTRAC brings together experience in command, intelligence, operational and staff roles at a time when the Army is focused on preparing for future warfare and evolving operational demands.
