Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar Addresses Southern Command Principals’ Meet in Bengaluru
The Indian Army’s Southern Command brought the heads of its Army Public Schools together in Bengaluru on September 18, 2026, for the Southern Command Principals’ Meet, a forum focused on raising educational standards and reinforcing the broader role of schools in shaping young citizens.
Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, AVSM, VSM, Army Commander, Southern Command, attended the meet and held an interaction with the principals of Army Public Schools under the command. The discussion centred on how educational institutions can prepare students not just for academic success, but also to grow into responsible, confident and value-driven individuals.
In his address to the gathering, Lt Gen Pushkar stressed the importance of education in nation-building. He said academic achievement must be matched by holistic development, character building and value-based learning if students are to be equipped for the challenges ahead.
He also acknowledged the work of APS principals and educators, commending their commitment to maintaining high academic standards while fostering an environment that supports the overall development of students.
The meet also served as a platform for school leaders to exchange ideas, review educational practices and discuss measures that could further improve teaching and learning across Army Public Schools under Southern Command.
The initiative reflected Southern Command’s stated emphasis on “Nurturing Minds, Building Character,” with a focus on developing students academically while also helping them grow into responsible citizens with strong values, leadership qualities and a sense of service to society.
