Lt Gen PS Shekhawat Examines NCC Raipur HQ, Broadens Aviation Training Initiative

Lt Gen PS Shekhawat, the General Officer Commanding of the Madhya Bharat Area, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of training and youth development programs at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters in Raipur. Known for his remarkable military service, including being awarded the Shaurya Chakra for bravery and completing three successful climbs of Mount Everest, he commended the NCC staff for their hard work and praised the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Directorate for their exceptional performances in national inter-directorate competitions.

Lt Gen Shekhawat emphasized the importance of the NCC in nation-building, leadership development, and fostering disciplined citizenship. He suggested increasing the involvement of ex-servicemen in teaching roles to enhance mentorship and outreach efforts, reaffirming the Indian Army's commitment to advancing youth development programs.

In a significant advancement, the NCC’s flying training initiative, previously limited to Raipur Airport, has been extended to the airfield in the Jashpur district. This expansion aims to offer cadets from remote areas access to high-quality aviation training, thus addressing regional disparities and preparing them for prospective careers in the Indian Air Force and the wider aviation industry.

Lt Col Pradeep Nair, who is in charge of the program, assured that the 3 Chhattisgarh NCC Air Squadron is upholding stringent safety and operational protocols. Plans are in motion to establish more training facilities in Chhattisgarh, reinforcing the program's dedication to cultivating the state's aviation potential.

Lt Gen Shekhawat's leadership extends beyond professional achievements, reflecting personal dedication to addressing career challenges within the military. In 2017, he lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Defence regarding alleged promotion-related issues, demonstrating his insight into the complexities of military careers. He now advocates for greater involvement of ex-servicemen in youth training initiatives.

The visit highlights the Indian Army's commitment to the NCC and its crucial role in developing future leaders. By targeting infrastructure and personnel deficiencies, Lt Gen Shekhawat aims to ensure the program’s ongoing growth, operational excellence, and meaningful youth engagement.
