Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Reviews Counter-Terrorism Preparedness and Security Grid in Reasi
Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, visited the general area of Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir on November 2, 2026, to review operational preparedness and assess the security situation in the region.
The visit brought together representatives from intelligence and other security agencies, reflecting a coordinated effort to evaluate the broader security environment in the hinterland. According to the information shared during the visit, the focus was on ongoing counter-terrorism operations, the strengthening of intelligence-sharing systems and closer coordination among agencies tasked with maintaining security in the area.
Lt Gen Sharma received a detailed briefing from military commanders and security officials on the prevailing operational situation, the steps being taken to counter terrorist activity and the measures in place to prevent further threats. The review also examined how effective the existing security grid has been and where surveillance, intelligence coordination and operational response could be improved further.

A major part of the assessment centred on integrating joint intelligence frameworks to improve information flow and ensure more effective cooperation between the Indian Army, intelligence organisations and other security agencies. The aim of such coordination is to identify possible threats early, enable timely responses and sustain a robust counter-terrorism posture in sensitive areas.

The Army Commander underlined the need for close synergy among all stakeholders involved in security operations. The discussions stressed coordinated planning, effective intelligence sharing and sustained operational vigilance as essential elements in dealing with emerging security challenges.
Reasi district is regarded as strategically important in the Jammu region because of its difficult terrain, large forested stretches and connectivity with adjoining districts. Maintaining an effective security network in such an environment requires constant monitoring, intelligence-led operations and close cooperation between military and civilian security agencies.

The review also highlighted the importance of keeping forces operationally ready in the hinterland, where security personnel must be prepared to respond to threats while operating in difficult geographical and operational conditions.
During his interaction with troops, Lt Gen Sharma commended their commitment to duty, their operational preparedness and their professionalism in demanding circumstances. He also appreciated the dedication and resilience shown by personnel involved in maintaining security and carrying out counter-terrorism operations in the region.
The visit reflects the Northern Command’s continued emphasis on operational preparedness, intelligence-led counter-terrorism efforts and coordinated security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir.
By reviewing ground-level readiness and reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, the Indian Army is seeking to maintain an effective security posture and ensure that its troops remain prepared to deal with evolving security challenges in the region.
