Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Conducts Logistics Review in Chandigarh, Highlights Tech Integration

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army's Northern Command, undertook a significant visit to Chandigarh on Saturday to evaluate air maintenance and logistical support operations. This visit underscores the Indian Army's ongoing efforts to bolster infrastructure and maintain operational readiness along the borders with Pakistan and China.
Lt Gen Sharma, recognized for his strategic acumen and extensive operational background, underscored the critical collaboration between the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force in enhancing logistics and airlift capabilities. Addressing officers and logistical staff, he highlighted the necessity of integrating modern technologies into supply chain operations to improve efficiency and responsiveness.

The senior commander, who began his career in 1987 with the 2nd Battalion of the Madras Regiment, inspected air maintenance facilities and engaged with ground crews, commending their dedication amidst challenging terrain and weather conditions. He lauded the efforts of logistics teams in maintaining essential supplies to high-altitude and forward areas, especially given the heightened alert along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Line of Control (LoC).
Having previously served as Director General of Information Warfare, Lt Gen Sharma has led India's efforts to integrate cyber technologies and psychological operations into military strategies. His visit emphasized the Northern Command's move towards technology-driven logistics and support systems, aligning with the Army's evolving combat and peacetime needs.

The Northern Command, based in Udhampur with a logistical center in Chandigarh, manages four corps: XIV Corps (Leh), XV Corps (Srinagar), XVI Corps (Nagrota), and I Corps (Mathura), which was recently transferred to this command. Under Lt Gen Sharma's leadership, the command has adopted a proactive stance, including the historic appointment of the first-ever Command Subedar Major in June 2025, a milestone for inclusive leadership and morale enhancement across ranks.
The review conducted on Saturday is also significant in light of India's expanding network of international military logistics agreements with nations such as the US, France, and Australia. These agreements are designed to enable quicker deployment and improve joint-operational capabilities, supporting India's strategic necessity for rapid logistics response in sensitive border areas.

Lt Gen Sharma’s visit reinforced the Army's dedication to logistical excellence while conveying a strong message about operational preparedness in one of India’s most critical defense zones. As the security landscape continues to evolve, the Northern Command, under his leadership, is expected to remain a bastion of strength and innovation.
