Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa underscores military logistics for Northern Border operations at MILIT

Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 101 Area, addressed officers at the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) with a lecture on “Operational and Logistics Dynamics in Communication Zone,” focusing on the increasingly complex role of military logistics in modern warfare. The session was delivered to officers attending the Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC-09) and other ongoing courses at the institute.

In his lecture, Lt Gen Wadhwa stressed that logistics has become central to sustaining military operations, especially in areas such as India’s strategically sensitive Northern Borders. He explained that operational readiness, combat endurance and the successful execution of missions in difficult terrain depend heavily on the timely and efficient movement of supplies, equipment and support assets.

He also spoke about the changing nature of warfare and the pressures that long-duration military engagements place on support systems. According to him, prolonged conflicts increase demand on supply chains, transport networks, equipment maintenance and the continuous availability of essential operational resources.

A key part of his address was the challenge posed by contested and congested sustainment networks. Lt Gen Wadhwa noted that logistics systems can be disrupted by enemy action, geographic limitations and competing operational priorities, making resilience and adaptability essential to military effectiveness.

Technology was another major theme of the talk. Lt Gen Wadhwa said modern technologies, when integrated into logistics planning, supply chain management and operational support systems, can improve efficiency, responsiveness and resilience during military operations.

He placed particular emphasis on Civil-Military Fusion, describing it as a framework that strengthens cooperation between the armed forces and civilian institutions, industries and infrastructure networks in support of national defence requirements. He also highlighted the need for a Whole-of-Nation approach to military logistics, arguing that future large-scale operations would require coordinated support from the Armed Forces, government agencies, industry and other national resources.

The lecture further underlined the importance of building logistics capabilities that are resilient and adaptable enough to operate in demanding environments. Lt Gen Wadhwa noted that India’s Northern Borders present distinct logistical difficulties because of high-altitude terrain, extreme weather, limited connectivity and the need to sustain forward-deployed formations over long periods. In such conditions, dependable logistics networks are essential to maintaining the effectiveness of troops stationed in strategically important sectors.

He added that future conflicts will require logistics systems capable of rapidly adjusting to changing battlefield conditions while continuing uninterrupted support to combat formations. The interaction gave officers attending DSTSC-09 and other courses at MILIT insight into how operational planning, logistics management and technological innovation intersect in contemporary warfare.

The lecture, taken together, reinforced the need for integrated, technology-enabled and resilient logistics systems to sustain combat power and support operational success in future military engagements.
