Lt Gen HS Vandra Reviews Operational Capabilities at Jabalpur Gun Carriage Factory
Lieutenant General HS Vandra, General Officer Commanding of Madhya Bharat Area, visited the Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) in Jabalpur to assess its operational capabilities and review how the establishment is contributing to India’s defence preparedness through indigenous production.
During the visit, Lt Gen Vandra met Shri Rituraj Dwivedi, Chief General Manager of the factory, and received a detailed briefing on key production modules and ongoing initiatives at the establishment. The interaction focused on how GCF is working to meet the operational requirements of the Armed Forces through defence manufacturing within the country.
The General Officer Commanding also reviewed a range of production-related activities and measures being taken to improve efficiency, technological capability and responsiveness to changing defence needs. The visit offered an opportunity to understand the factory’s current capabilities and the steps being taken to strengthen its ability to support the services.
Lt Gen Vandra stressed the importance of expanding indigenous defence capabilities and developing solutions that can keep pace with the evolving requirements of the Armed Forces. He called for continuous improvement, innovation and modernisation so that defence production remains aligned with contemporary operational challenges.
The visit also highlighted the role of coordination between operational formations and indigenous defence production establishments. Such engagement, the statement said, helps narrow the gap between battlefield requirements and manufacturing capability, while encouraging the development of equipment suited to the needs of troops.
Lt Gen Vandra appreciated the efforts of the Gun Carriage Factory in supporting national defence preparedness and encouraged the organisation to continue focusing on capability enhancement and technological advancement.
The interaction reaffirmed Madhya Bharat Area’s commitment to strengthening a self-reliant defence ecosystem and promoting indigenous capability in line with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
It also reflected the broader objective of building an Indian Armed Forces that is better prepared for emerging security challenges through modern technology, indigenous production and sustained capability development.
