Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma Commends Troops in Rajouri and Kishtwar for Operational Readiness and Humanitarian Efforts

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, who serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, conducted visits to formations and units stationed in Rajouri and Kishtwar. The purpose of his visit was to evaluate the operational readiness and morale of the troops in these areas.
During his tour, he praised the soldiers for their dedication and professionalism, particularly noting their swift humanitarian response during the recent cloud burst disaster in Chishoti, which resulted in significant damage and loss of life. The Indian Army's quick Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief efforts once again demonstrated its dual role in maintaining national security and providing civilian support during emergencies.

Lieutenant General Sharma emphasized the troops' steadfast dedication to maintaining high levels of operational readiness, while also offering humanitarian assistance. He highlighted the need for ongoing vigilance to ensure peace and stability in a region that faces both natural disasters and militant threats.
The Northern Command, based in Udhampur and re-established in 1972, covers the strategically vital regions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. These areas have faced numerous security challenges, such as the terror attacks in Rajouri in 2023, which led to the deaths of seven civilians and triggered extensive counter-insurgency efforts.

Besides disaster relief, the troops of the Northern Command continue to carry out counter-terror operations in the hinterland. Recent actions, such as Operation Trashi in Kishtwar where a soldier lost his life while neutralizing terrorists, highlight the ongoing challenges posed by militancy in the area.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma's dialogue with and commendation of the troops underscore the Indian Army's commitment to protecting the nation's borders while also providing assistance during natural disasters. His visit exemplifies the Army's holistic approach to security, stability, and humanitarian service, thereby reinforcing the bond of trust between the armed forces and local communities.
