LICO Course Concludes at CIJW School, Vairengte; Captain Shikhar Thapa Honored as Best Student

The Low Intensity Conflict Operations (LICO) Course at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) in Vairengte concluded on December 31, 2025, with 215 students successfully completing the demanding training program.

This iteration of the course included participants from Friendly Foreign Countries, with 13 officers and soldiers from nations such as Nepal, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Ghana, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe, highlighting India's expanding influence as a leader in specialized counter-insurgency and jungle warfare instruction.

Major General Kulvir Singh, SM, the Commandant of CIJWS, provided the Valedictory Address. He emphasized the evolving nature of warfare, influenced by swift technological progress, shifting threat scenarios, and complex conflict dynamics. He encouraged the students to embody core military values such as clarity, courage, and compassion in their careers.

Awards were presented to outstanding participants for their achievements. Captain Shikhar Thapa of the Garhwal Rifles was named the Best Student of the Officer Course due to his exemplary performance and leadership. Naik Sudhir Singh from the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry received the Best Student award for the JCO/NCO Course, recognizing his superior field skills and professional aptitude.

The completion of the LICO Course further established CIJWS's prestige as a premier institution for counter-insurgency and jungle warfare training. This program contributed to enhancing interoperability, promoting professional excellence, and strengthening international military cooperation.

Participants were equipped with sophisticated operational skills crucial for managing modern low-intensity conflict scenarios, reinforcing the Indian Army's dedication to developing capacity and leadership in challenging operational environments.
