Indian Railways and Indian Army Collaborate to Enhance Employment Opportunities for Agniveers and Veterans
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, Indian Railways and the Indian Army have introduced a Framework of Cooperation designed to enhance post-retirement and civilian transition employment opportunities for Agniveers and ex-servicemen.
This framework, spearheaded by senior officials from the Ministry of Railways and the Indian Army, aims to facilitate a seamless transition from military service to civilian careers. The focus is on raising awareness about job opportunities within the railways, establishing dedicated support systems, and institutionalizing partnerships to integrate skilled and disciplined personnel into the national transport sector.
Indian Railways has bolstered its resettlement policy by instituting structured reservations for specific groups:
| Group | Level-1 Posts | Level-2/Above Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Ex-servicemen | 20% | 10% |
| Agniveers | 10% | 5% |
In the fiscal year 2024–25, Indian Railways allocated a total of 14,788 posts for ex-servicemen through vacancy notifications, with recruitment managed by RRCs and RRBs via competitive exams.
To swiftly fill vacancies, Indian Railways will appoint over 5,000 ex-servicemen as Pointsmen on a contractual basis until regular recruitment processes are completed. Several railway divisions have already formalized agreements with Army organizations to accelerate hiring, with additional collaborations expected.
The initiative underscores the combined strengths of Indian Railways and the Indian Army, including discipline, leadership, and technical skills, and their contribution to nation-building. By integrating Agniveers and veterans into the railway system, the framework aims to enhance workforce preparedness and bolster logistics, infrastructure, and security coordination across the nation.
