Indian Navy Honors Karwar Jeweller for Bravery in Rescuing Officer on Railway Tracks

The Indian Navy has paid tribute to Nagaprasad Raikar, a jeweller from Karwar, for his heroic intervention in saving a Navy officer who had collapsed on railway tracks on August 1, 2025.

On the day in question, Navy officer Saketh Kashyap was traveling to Mumbai when he slipped and fell from the train, resulting in severe bleeding upon hitting the tracks. Raikar, who happened to be nearby, saw the officer in distress and swiftly took him to the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences for urgent medical care. After receiving initial treatment, Navy officials transferred Officer Kashyap to INHS Patanjali hospital for additional medical attention.

In appreciation of Raikar’s quick and selfless actions, Navy officials organized a formal ceremony at Kadamba Naval Base. During this event, Raikar was personally commended by Officer Kashyap aboard the warship INS Tabar, under the command of Saketh Kumar. Raikar was presented with a certificate of appreciation and various commemorative souvenirs to honor his bravery.

Recalling the incident, Raikar stated, “While returning home from visiting a friend, I heard someone speaking in Hindi near Khadwada cross railway station. I found an individual on the ground, bleeding heavily. Although I didn’t know his identity, I took him to the hospital, later discovering he was Naval officer Saketh Kashyap.”

He further mentioned, “I received a call from a Navy officer asking to meet at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Upon arrival, I found out that the caller was the commanding officer. It was an honor to be recognized by the Navy.”

The Navy's recognition underscores the crucial role of civilian bravery and prompt action in saving lives, strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the community.
