The Technical Entry Scheme (TES) offers a respected entry path for candidates who have completed their 10+2 education. Those who successfully enter through TES receive a Permanent Commission in the Indian Army. The training period for TES entrants spans four years, with the TES 54 course set to begin in January 2026.
The four-year TES training is divided into two phases. Phase I encompasses Integrated Basic Military Training and Engineering Training at one of three institutions: College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) in Mhow, or Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad, lasting three years. Phase II involves a year of Integrated Basic Military Training and Engineering Training at either the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun or another designated Pre Commission Training Academy (PCTA).
After completing the training program, candidates are awarded an Engineering degree, although no ante date seniority is granted based on this qualification.
The selection process for TES candidates involves a two-stage evaluation at the SSB. Stage I requires candidates to pass to proceed to Stage II, with those not passing being sent back the same day. Stage II involves a five-day interview process followed by a medical examination.
Those who receive recommendations from the SSB and are deemed medically fit will get a Joining Letter for training based on their merit and the availability of vacancies, provided they meet all eligibility requirements.
Given the intense competition due to the high number of candidates for SSB technical entries, preparation is key. To improve the chances of success, particularly in Stage I, candidates should aim for a 90% score in the Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and deliver an excellent story with outstanding narration. Consistent practice with specialized SSB workbooks can be advantageous for Stage II, which includes Psychology, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, and the Personal Interview. Daily practice will enhance the likelihood of successfully joining the ranks of the Indian Army.
The TES 54 cut-off marks establish a high benchmark for those aiming to enter the Indian Army through this esteemed pathway. With a demanding training regimen and rigorous selection process, TES candidates can anticipate a fulfilling career in the Indian Army, commencing with their training in January 2026.
