Indian Army Para Commando Killed in Road Accident While Returning to Duty in Rajasthan
An Indian Army Para Commando tragically lost his life in a road accident just 20 kilometers from his home as he was returning to duty. The victim, 25-year-old Panna Singh of 6 PARA (Special Forces), was heading back from his village, Ozhiyana (Byawar), to catch a train to Jammu when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle near Gohana village around 11 PM on Sunday. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and Singh was killed instantly.
According to Station Officer Jitendra Faujdar, Singh was on his way to Ajmer to board a train to Jammu at the time of the accident. Authorities identified him using documents found in his possession. Singh had recently been home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and had the opportunity to tie rakhi with his three sisters.
His body was returned to his native village of Ozhiyana, where his funeral, complete with full military honors, was held on Monday evening. A solemn 28-kilometer procession with the tricolor was conducted from Amrit Kaur Hospital in Byawar to his village, attended by hundreds of locals on motorcycles chanting slogans. In a poignant scene, Singh’s 1.5-year-old son Mayank lit the funeral pyre as family members, including his mother, wife Pooja, and siblings, were overcome with grief. An Army unit from Nasirabad presented the national flag to his father, Prabhu Singh, along with a Guard of Honor.
Panna Singh joined the Indian Army in 2018 and had been serving with the D Team of 6 PARA in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019. He leaves behind his wife, Pooja, a four-year-old daughter, Sapna, and his son, Mayank. His younger brother, Pintu, is aiming to join the Army, while his youngest brother, Sunil, is in the ninth grade. The entire village came together in mourning as they bid farewell to the fallen soldier.
