Indian Army Opens Fire on Suspicious Activity at LoC in Rajouri, Triggers Extensive Search Operations
Indian Army forces engaged in gunfire following the detection of suspicious movements near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Tuesday. This encounter initiated extensive search operations throughout several regions. The incident took place in the Chingus area of the Keri sector, where three to four individuals were observed moving covertly through the forested terrain.
In excess of two dozen shots were fired, and drones were utilized to track the suspected infiltrators. Despite these efforts, the initial search yielded no evidence of the individuals. Consequently, coordinated search operations were launched across more than a dozen locations in the Poonch district, including Surankote, Mendhar, Sari, Pathankhor, Chandimarh, and Kallar-Gursai.
The operations were conducted by security teams from the Special Operations Group (SOG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Rashtriya Rifles. In parallel, police and paramilitary personnel carried out searches in several border villages within the Kathua and Samba districts, such as Bein Nullah, Chak Dhulma, and Chakra, although no arrests were made.
The increased security measures come as preparations heighten for the annual Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on July 3. In Udhampur, Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Nagpure led a high-level briefing to evaluate the security strategies along the pilgrimage route. The discussions highlighted the importance of surveillance, traffic management, and collaboration with disaster management teams. Officers were directed to provide full support to pilgrims and maintain stringent vigilance to ensure the Yatra proceeds safely and smoothly amid ongoing security concerns.
