Indian Army Major Rohit Bachwala Recognized for Heroic Emergency Delivery at Jhansi Railway Station

Major Rohit Bachwala of the Indian Army Medical Corps earned commendation from Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, for his extraordinary service during a critical emergency at Jhansi Railway Station.

On July 5, 2025, Major Rohit, who was on leave from Military Hospital Jhansi and heading to his hometown Hyderabad, witnessed a woman in distress near the lift area of the railway station. The woman, in advanced stages of labor, had fallen from her wheelchair. Despite the absence of medical facilities, Major Rohit promptly intervened to assist.

With only a towel, a knife, and hair clips at his disposal, Major Rohit conducted an emergency delivery on the platform. The situation escalated when the newborn was unresponsive at birth. Demonstrating quick thinking, he successfully resuscitated the infant and addressed post-delivery complications faced by the mother, including placental delivery issues.

Despite the challenging environment and lack of medical equipment, Major Rohit managed to stabilize both the mother and the child before their transfer to a government medical facility for continued care.

The Indian Army Chief lauded Major Rohit's decisive action, medical expertise, and composure under pressure, highlighting his efforts as a testament to the values and dedication exemplified by the Armed Forces.
