Indian Army Jawan and Civilian Arrested in Espionage Case Involving Pakistan’s ISI

In a significant counter-espionage operation, the Amritsar Rural Police have apprehended an Indian Army soldier along with a civilian on charges of leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The individuals in question have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopy Foji, who serves in the Sikh Regiment stationed in Jammu, and Sahil Masih, alias Shali, both hailing from Dhariwal in Punjab’s Amritsar district.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav reported that initial inquiries indicated Gurpreet Singh maintained direct contact with ISI handlers, transferring classified information through pen drives. This espionage connection was allegedly facilitated by a Dubai-based drug trafficker named Arjan, also a resident of Dhariwal, who introduced Gurpreet to ISI agents approximately five months ago.

The police have confiscated two mobile phones containing virtual numbers that were reportedly used to communicate with the Pakistani handlers. Gurpreet is believed to have gathered, stored, and relayed sensitive military data to the ISI through clandestine drop-off techniques. In exchange, he allegedly received financial rewards channeled through a complex network of friends, relatives, and overseas contacts to evade financial scrutiny.

Maninder Singh, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Amritsar Rural, noted that the arrests were executed during an intelligence-driven operation as the two suspects were attempting another data transfer. Gurpreet, who has been with the Army since 2016, is accused of exploiting his official position to methodically distribute classified military information. The funds he received were reportedly managed through a convoluted network designed to bypass detection.

The accused have been charged under sections 3, 5, and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Lopoke police station. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the espionage network and to identify additional domestic and international collaborators.
